SPRING PALACE
Kurt Felix, the South African principle for the Gulf Racing Club, went to R400 000 to secure the colt SPRING PALACE. Carded as Lot 56 on the sale, the POTALA PALACE colt was a physical stand out for the team. He possessed the quality and scope of a miler, showing enough speed in pre training and at his race course gallop to imply that a juvenile season could be on the cards in the Cape summer as well. The colt has a regal pedigree, he is from the mare Spring Orchid, who is a sister to Snowdance, hailing from the great “grey” family of Bela-Bela and All is Secret. He was prepared for the sale by Justin Snaith who was very keen to have the horse bought for the stable and the GRC team was happy to oblige, purchasing the colt for the yard who will train him on into his racing career.
DONNY TEE
With the cash rich juvenile racing on offer in the Cape season, the team was on the hunt for a forward type of juvenile who could represent the team in the juvenile series and potentially other races on offer. With that in mind, we have secured DONNY TEE. Presented as Lot 68, the Duke Of Marmalade colt put up a very forward gallop and was secured by our trainer, Vaughan Marshall, at a very reasonable R40 000! Vaughan is a master at finding value in yearlings and backs that up with a formidable record of juvenile success. He described the colt as a very “racey” sort and that he will run very early. With the R200 000 Commonwealth Plate on Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas day (17 December) and the summer juvenile series commencing after that, he will hopefully be our representative. The summer juvenile series has three legs and starts with The Trippi Stakes on L’Ormarins Kings Plate Day (7 January) which is run for R350 000. The Summer Juvenile on WSB Met day (28 January) will be run for R500 000 and the final leg is the Cape Nursery on Derby Day (28 February) being run for R750 000. He is being sold in an “upfront” package which covers costs till the end of his juvenile career so enquire with the team!
BURN BABY BURN
In the spirit of chasing juvenile runners. The team jumped into a sharp looking filly who was presented as lot 22. The unnamed filly by new sire Fire Away galloped very well and comes in high regard from her pre trainer. She is a strong and well made filly who looks very forward. Fillies have done fantastically well in juvenile races historically, as they receive a fair sex allowance and are generally a bit more precocious than their male counterparts. This sharp filly will be trained by Lucinda Woodruff who has had a good start to her training career and will be based at her Milnerton headquarters. She was knocked down for R110 000 and represents great value with all the juvenile racing on offer in the Cape summer season
